Old Mistresses: Women and Gender
in the Visual Arts
Taught at the University of Leeds, England
This blog is designed as a database of my research into the role of women in art, their exclusion by men, why they were excluded, and how they can be 'rescued', and prevented from further exclusion. The module is designed to consider key moments in history, and through case studies reevaluating the role of women in history, and how that history was written, pre-dominately by men.
I consider contemporary thinkers on the gender issues, theories of the body, and new approaches to writing art history.
